The move from annual to three-year funding of land transport activities was one of the key recommendations of the Government’s Next Steps in the Land Transport Sector Review which will be implemented following the passage of the Land Transport Management Amendment Bill.

The National Land Transport Programme (NLTP)

Land Transport NZ provides funding for land transport primarily through the National Land Transport Programme (NLTP).

Funding areas

The NLTP’s funding activity classes change over time in response to transport needs, but current major aspects of the funding programme include:

Maintenance, renewal and improvement of local roads and state highways
Passenger transport – assisting regional councils provide passenger transport.
Regional and national development (read questions and answers about the changes announced on 18 July 2007).
Research, Education and Training

research projects that improve our understanding of New Zealand’s land transport system
education and training activities

Road construction
the Road Policing Programme - funding the NZ Police’s road policing activities (links to NZ Police website).

Other information

Land Transport NZ stakeholder surveys: Land Transport New Zealand values the working relationships it has with its stakeholders and see them as crucial to promoting land transport sustainability and safety. To gauge the health of these working relationships Land Transport NZ carries out an annual stakeholder survey.
