The Land Transport New Zealand ’s crash analysis system (CAS) is a vital tool in the drive to reduce road trauma. CAS is intended for Land Transport New Zealand's road safety partners to use to evaluate the factors that cause road accidents. CAS is a complex system not designed for casual or public use - training is required before users use CAS.

CAS is an integrated high tech computer system that provides tools to:

• and report on road crash and related data

CAS replaces the earlier AIS (Accident Investigation System) system. AIS offered a subset of the new CAS capability.

Traffic crash reports

Traffic crash reports (TCRs) are the forms completed by police officers at the scene of all road crashes, including non-injury crashes. They record the details of exactly where, when, how and why the crash happened.

CAS technology

CAS is provided over the internet using Citrix and VPN (Virtual Private Network) technology. The CAS application is run on a central server and the resulting screens are provided to you via Citrix. Any keys you press or mouse movements you make are transmitted back to the server and the CAS application will respond to your instructions. While CAS can be run over a internet dial up connection it is recommended that a faster link be utilised.

There is a charge of $250 per annum for CAS which covers some of the cost of the software licences committed to each user. NOTE: When applying for access DO NOT send any money, cheques or invoices/payment numbers. The licence fee is charged on a particular time of the year and your first licence fee will be calculate from the date of your request to that time of the year. Hence not necessarily a full charge. A invoice for your first licence fee will be sent to you.
